Junk Jewellery

The jewellery made from recycled elements which featured in Juliette's book Junk Genius, has attracted huge amounts of interest. Encouraged by this response Juliette has created a fascinating course in which you can learn how to refashion old, broken jewellery into stunning new designs, whilst also creating  jewellery from all sorts of bits and pieces you might previously have thrown away.
Scraps of fabric can be turned into brooches embellished by rescued diamante trims, spoons become pendants and games counters are turned into charms for bracelets. Stunningly original pieces can be made for yourself or as gifts.
The course will cover simple sewing, attaching jump rings and fastenings, as well as glueing and basic soldering. Juliette and Louise will show you all the techniques you need to know to make your own unique and personalised jewellery.

Class Tutors

Juliette Goggin

Juliette Goggin has been making all manner of things since she was very young, brought up with a Blue Peter childhood of crafting items from washing up bottles and sticky back plastic. Her experience in designing homeware and cosmetic products both for herself and her designer and high street name clients gave her a real understanding of the importance of making things really work. She has combined this experience of consultancy product development with spending three years writing Junk Genius with trend and styling guru and friend Stacy Sirk. A book which US crafting website Homestyle Books bookstore has called.

Beautifully designed and so inspirational, Junk Genius is a treasure for anyone who loves all things bohemian and shabby chic.

She has also appeared in two series of Channel 4's Superscrimpers: Waste Not Want Not, showcasing her hints and tips on all things craft related and teaching those with no sewing or crafting experience how to make all kinds of amazing projects on a shoestring budget.

All these unique experiences have come together in her exciting new Genius Crafting Courses which are starting this autumn in her home village of Ashburnham near Battle in East Sussex.

Louise Roberts

Juliette and Louise met at their local WI and immediately discovered a mutual love of making almost anything. They could have become arch rivals, fighting it out for medals at the local Ashburnham Flower Show and Fete, but instead they joined forces to start crafting sessions for the WI members, helping them create Christmas and Easter Gifts before hitting on the idea of jointly designing crafting classes.
To her friends, Louise is a constant source of admiration and astonishment in her ability to make the perfect cake, scoop many of the first prizes at the annual shows and still manage to run up a new skirt from a vintage curtain. To date she has won 3 RHS Banksian medals and has extensive experience in horticulture, having raised and sold her own plants at local farmers markets. Self sufficient in vegetables to feed her family, and a grower of a vast array of stunning flowers, expect the addition of Louise-centric classes in 2013.

Oliver's Hill Barn

Recently completed by a local builder and craftsman, Oliver's Hill Barn is an oak framed building located in picturesque Ashburnham, a tiny East Sussex village more often known as the home of historic 18th century neo-palladian  style Ashburnham Place, with its little known Capability Brown landscape gardens.

The barn is a vast and light filled space perfect for crafting activities. Large windows frame vistas of the fields and animals of Oliver's Hill farm, which also serves as a location for therapies and learning. A day at Oliver's Hill promises to be an opportunity to acquire many new skills and also to absorb the joys of being in such beautiful surroundings. Join us for a day to really remember.

Details of a Surrey venue will be announced very soon.
